Gold leaf can be applied to all sorts of surfaces using techniques that have been passed down for generations. Come learn how you can brighten up your world with the techniques of sign painting and surface gilding Gold Leaf!
Surface gilding is the application of gold leaf to objects, predominantly used on vehicles, signs, and decorative architectural elements. We see it used for address numbers on houses, lettering on fire trucks and the domed roof of the historic Buffalo Savings Bank. No prior knowledge is necessary to attend! This workshop covers all the steps you will need in order to start your sign painting and surface gilding journey.

Workshop Outline
Workshop participants will get an introduction to the processes of brush lettering, sign painting and surface gilding over the course of 3 Sundays. Participants will have a selection of traditional letter styles to choose from and then learn how to reproduce the letter on their panel in gold leaf and enamel paint.
Day 1: Basics of brush lettering and layout – how to draw letters and plan your sign panel
Day 2: Painting your sign – learn to transfer your design to the panel and paint!
Day 3: Surface gilding – learn to apply gold leaf
